Is non-stick pot paint toxic

However, after quality sampling found that part of the non-stick pan does not meet the national standard QB - T2421. In the sampling of products, 35% of the nonconforming items mainly focus on the thickness of non-stick layer and chemical indicators.

Experts say the nonstick coating called Teflon is made of polytetrafluoroethylene, which is chemically inert. This coating is often used in non-stick cooking utensils because of its good lubrication and low friction coefficient. Ingestion of a small amount of non-stick coating will be excreted by the human body, harmless to health.

However, when exposed to high temperatures, the teflon contained in the nonstick coating breaks down phosgene fluoride, which can strongly irritate the lungs and lead to emphysema. Usually, the denaturation temperature of the nonstick coating is 260℃, and the decomposition temperature is 350℃. When the temperature reaches more than 350℃, the fluorine phosgene will be decomposed.

In cooking, as long as attention does not burn non-stick pan, generally will not reach decomposition temperature, normal cooking can be.

Therefore, we come to the conclusion that the non-stick coating itself is not carcinogenic, only when the temperature reaches more than 350℃, the coating will break down harmful substances, along with the intake of food, affecting the health of the body.
